Frequently Asked
Questions
-
What do I wear?
You can wear comfortable, casual business clothes with
leather-soled shoes. A pair of loafers would be fine to get
started. If you decide to get more involved, we also recommend
investing in dance shoes which can make all the difference in
your comfort. We have a few companies we recommend.
-
Do I have to have a partner?
No. We encourage volunteer rotation for both couples and
singles. This helps the leaders to learn to lead and the
followers to learn to follow. It’s a great way to meet new
people.
-
Which class or classes should I
take first?
The 7 p.m. beginner ballroom is the best class to start with. It
introduces the beginner to the variety of different dances in
ballroom. Patterns and basic techniques are geared to those who
have never danced before. The 8 p.m. class is a progressive
class where swing is taught. Depending on the interest there are
a variety of swing dances that could be taught such as triple
swing also known as east coast swing and west coast swing.
-
What if I have two left feet?
You won’t have them for long. Simple, easy explanations
along with repetition, makes one right. Increased confidence on
the dance floor will enhance your life.
-
How long before our wedding,
cruise or vacation should we come in for dance lessons?
Immediately. Take the stress out of that first dance.
Choose your song and let us get you moving to the music so you
can enjoy a wonderful memory. Relax and have fun!
-
Should I take private lessons or
group classes?
Both. Group classes teach you patterns while private lessons
focus on you, your frame, your leading or following, techniques
and connection. Sometimes, it depends on the urgency of your
dance expertise. It also depends how proficient you want to be.
People learn differently. Some learn dancing better in a more
private setting than in a group class. Some just want to get
good fast. The more you dance under supervision, the sooner
you’ll be dancing like the stars!
